Our weekly photo contest is a great way to celebrate your memories in pictures and share them with others while winning prizes.  In keeping with the theme of “blooming idiots” for this week, enter your favorite flower macro shot for a chance to win weekly, monthly, or even a yearly prize from just one entry.

Beginning in July, we will be introducing a new approach to our photo contests.  The idea is to offer you a chance to win prizes at weekly, monthly, and even yearly levels.  This competition is too big for one posting, so be sure to check out the details of our upcoming monthly and yearly contests as well.

During our first week, beginning July 5, we will sponsor a scenery photo contest for digital photo enthusiasts.  Anyone can participate by entering one photo of their favorite local sightseeing hangout.  Photos need to be in .JPG format, no larger than 4mb and named using a unique value to avoid being overwritten by other participants. After your photo has been uploaded to the above location, send an email to jdir@bhotechnologists.com to provide details about the file name of your photo, your photo location and composition, and your desire to enter it in our contest.  PLEASE DO NOT attempt to enter by attaching photos to your email messages.  From the entries we receive, we will select a first, second, and third place winner. For the week ending 7/11/09.  Winning contestants will be notified by email, and their prizes posted on the site for download. 

Weekly prizes will be digital awards acknowledging the winners, including their name, winning week, and a copy of their winning photograph incorporated into the award.  See below for a sample award, which will vary depending on the weekly contest theme.

This week was so busy it took a bit to put together the favorite items worth sharing for this week.  My first offering is a photo and design that reveals a little known secret about how some plants adjust the color of their leaves.  If you look closely at the photo, it would appear that the tree is matching its leaf color to the exact same shade as the barely visible red traffic light color.  So maybe it is not as interesting as I thought, but I liked the idea myself.

Here at Matte Watch, we like new stuff, new ideas, new new and more new.  As the month of May begins, we want more to happen around here than in months past.  Since we do not have an unlimited travel budget, and would love to showcase scenes from all around, we are introducing a new challenge to our friends both old and new.

We are having a scenery photo contest for the non-professional digital photo enthusiast.  In the weeks ahead, we would like anyone who wants to participate to send in a picture of their favorite local sightseeing hangout. The first place winning photo will be used in a decorative digital plaque design with an inspirational, humorous, or original quote based on the photo composition.  Although all our prizes will be dazzling treatments of your photo entries, the first place winner will receive the most lasting and sophisticated combination of design, prose, and photo matting available from our digital techniques.

The second place winning photo will be digitally matted with a unique composition, and formatted as a screen saver image.  These prizes will be original and unique compliments to your photographs, using a selection of our latest matting approaches, which may or may not include thematic matte labeling.

The third place winning photo will be used to create a decorative calendar page composition for a future month.  Each page we create will be a temporal work of art thanks to your photos and our matting techniques.  You will be able to tell your friends that your photos inspired a beautiful calendar page, and the proof to show for it.  Use the calendar design as a nice greeting card to your friends for that month.

Winning entries will be posted on the site as they are selected each week, and will be available for free download by those who have entered photos used in the compositions, other people are asked for a $3 donation to download. 

As a second contest, we invite our visitors to send us an email to nominate someone they know for recognition.  You may nominate anyone you want to be recognized for anything you think they deserve to be acknowledged for.  Your ideas can be humorous, serious, heroic, or just plain stupid, but you must have the permission of whoever you nominate to place their name into competition for a free digital award.  Send us an email with who your nominee is, what sort of recognition they deserve, and optionally upload a photo of them using the same upload method as described for the other contest.  All “blame” or consequence for nominating someone for recognition is the responsibility of the person making the nomination.  Weekly winners will be posted on the site, and the honoree is entitled to a free download of their digital award from our showcase.  Anyone who protests the posting of their award or prizes in any of our contests will be promptly removed.  We will reserve all copyrights to final compositions created from submitted photos.
